“One of our most truly poetic songwriters.” –No Depression
Jeffrey Foucault has spent the last decade mining the darker seams of country and blues, producing a string of spare and poetic albums of rare power while garnering accolades internationally for a tersely elegant brand of songwriting set apart by itsinherently warm throaty delivery, hauntingly honest and poetic imagery, and weather-beaten cool. In addition to his solo career, Foucault also plays in the sextet Cold Satellite and the trio Redbird, which also includes Kris Delmhorst and Peter Mulvey.
Foucault grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. His father played a plywood guitar and his mother liked to sing. Winter Sundays were for church or ice fishing. He went to college and dropped out, took a job on a fruit farm and started writing songs about a girl from Iowa. He finished school, roofed houses, drove a snowplow, and home-schooled the son of the local bar owner in exchange for beer. He cut his first album in the winter of 2000, and he’s been going strong ever since.
